Folic acid is important for men and non-pregnant women because it is needed to form healthy red blood cell, and it protect against various anemias and their associated weakness and tiredness. It also helps maintain heart health.
Studies have shown that most American women of childbearing age and many of the elderly do not get sufficient folic acid through their diets. Folic acid is destroyed during cooking.
