I think the best way to solve the problem if you usb won't eject and you're in a hurry then is to just shut down your computer. But if you really are in a super hurry and don't even have time to shut down the computer than I really don't think it is that bad to just pull it out because I have done it a few times and nothing has ever happened.

In my experience, I would have to say that most of the time, ejecting it isn't really that bad, there is always a risk, but most of the time, you'll be fine and so will your files. It's only in danger if the drive you have has been damaged, or if you are saving your files and you suddenly pull. Then you may have some issues with it. Otherwise, if you can't eject it, just pull it.
