Legere Pharmaceuticals Products
Legere Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. (“Legere”) is a private biopharmaceutical corporation engaged in Cellular Adhesion Molecule ("CAM") technology. Lectin Labs, Ltd. (“Lectin”) is a Nevada-based dba for Legere, which is incorporated in the state of Delaware. The technology is based upon a class of bioactive natural carbohydrate-binding compounds that, the Company has discovered, have the potential for the prevention and treatment of a wide range of diseases that are major worldwide health problems. These compounds, known as "lectins" (from the Latin verb "legere," to choose), are exclusively extracted by the Company from plants, many of which are present in our diet, and are being developed as microbicides that inhibit or destroy the infectivity of pathogenic viruses and bacteria (microbes) by binding to their carbohydrate surfaces.
Infectious diseases are the world's leading killer, claiming many millions of lives each year. The alarming emergence of new and antibiotic-resistant microbes makes it vital to find new strategies for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. Lectin’s strategy is based on the fundamental principle that microbes must first attach to host cells in order to cause an infectious disease. Interference with this first key step in infection — by using lectins to specifically target and bind microbes — can prevent and treat many infectious diseases. Because this approach attacks microbes at such a fundamental level, it becomes unlikely that resistance will ever develop.
The Company is a development stage pharmaceutical company based in Carson City, Nevada. Operating in a 5,000 square foot research and development facility, the Company has six issued U.S. patents, two international patents, and numerous counterpart applications pending in the U.S. and many countries.
Lectin’s initial product, NutraLec®, is a clinically tested functional nutraceutical containing a lectin which neutralizes Helicobacter pylori, the pathogen residing in the stomach which is principally responsible for gastritis, ulcer disease, and stomach cancer. A more potent form of this product, PhytoCAM™ Ulcer, is being developed as a prescription drug. Much of Lectin’s focus is on the development of products for other gastrointestinal diseases and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs): NutraLec II, also a functional nutraceutical containing lectins, would neutralize pathogens responsible for “soldier diarrhea,” thereby providing warfighters with improved gastrointestinal health while in the field; PhytoCAM HIV, PhytoCAM VM (vaginal microbicides), and PhytoCAM Condom utilize single or multiple lectins targeted at HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The company has also identified lectins for protection against genital herpes, syphilis, and chancroid. A particular benefit of the vaginal microbicides is that they will provide protection otherwise unavailable for women – who tend to be more vulnerable to STDs than men. Contact:
