Amrita Aromatherapy

Amrita Aromatherapy Products

About Amrita
Dr. Christoph Streicher founded Amrita Aromatherapy in 1989 with the purpose of offering the finest essential oils from all continents. Christoph used his expertise in evaluating quality, as well as his formulating skills, to generate an aromatherapy line for your health, well-being and upliftment. He has established an unsurpassed standard of purity, therapeutic effectiveness and pleasantness. Every day it is our joy to deal with the distillers of the finest oils, to put the products together and to serve you, our customers, with this amazing aromatherapy line.

Unique Aromatherapy Products
In addition to Amrita's extensive line of essential oils, we have developed a number of unique aromatherapy products. These innovative products reflect Dr. Streicher's depth of understanding of the potential of plants for healing, as well as his formulation skills and commitment to providing the best that science and the tradition of aromatherapy and herbology have to offer. In particular, the Roll-On Relief line and the Tri-Essence PowerBlends resulted from this unique expertise.

Amrita's Philosophy
Amrita bases its sourcing of essential oils and other ingredients, as well as the principles of product formulation, on the holistic healing paradigm. In addition to organic farming, the evaluation of the holistic vibrational quality and scent of the ingredients is a core element in sourcing essential oils and other ingredients. When formulating complex products, it is always Amrita’s commitment to address a particular health issue within the context of the well-being of the whole mind-body of the consumer. Only compatible ingredients that support each other’s actions are blended together, so that a benefit to one area of health never causes an imbalance in another. And we never, ever use a single synthetic ingredient.

Amrita 's Customers
Amrita offers its entire line to the natural products industry. Customers include day spas, destination spas and resort spas, as well as professional practitioners such as massage therapists, aromatherapists and chiropractors. Amrita also offers private labeling and custom manufacturing.

Aromatherapy Expertise
Dr. Christoph Streicher, founder of Amrita Aromatherapy, was mentored by Jacques Paltz of France, a world-renowned authority on using essential oils for both healing and personal skin care. Studying also with a number of well-known Indian Ayurvedic physicians, Dr. Streicher learned the time-tested therapeutic use of essential oils for increasing vitality and balance.

Ayurveda is the 5,000-year-old Vedic medical science that regards physiological balance as the basis of perfect health.

Dr. Streicher has a Master's Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wüerzburg, and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Maharishi University of Management, in which he focused on the relationship of plant life to human consciousness.

Dr. Streicher became aware that most essential oils on the market are in some way denatured. He envisioned Amrita to be trustworthy source of nature's pure aromatherapy essential oils. Dr. Streicher upholds this vision each time he sources an essential oil.

Amrita carries an extensive line of high-quality, therapeutic-grade aromatherapy products. We import directly from growers and distillers all over the globe and supply these oils and aromatherapy products to the U.S. and international markets.

In-House Lab
Every one of Amrita’s essential oils has been verified for purity and authenticity by gas chromatography (GC). After 14 years of analyzing essential oils, Christoph emphatically states, "An in-house gas-chromatographic laboratory is an absolute necessity to ensure the purity and effectiveness of essential oils and essential oil products."

Testing every essential oil batch when it arrives, as we do at Amrita, would be cost-prohibitive for an essential oil company that has to rely on an outside GC lab. And spot-testing, or simply relying on vendors’ information, is not sufficient to ensure the purity of the oils. The detection of "nature-identical compounds" of synthetic origin often requires chiral column analysis.

Gas-chromatographic screening of every batch is necessary, therefore, to ensure that the oil has not been cut with alcohol or any other solvent and does not include so-called “nature identical” laboratory-produced compounds. It verifies not only that the oil is 100% natural but also that it is distilled from the correct botanical species, subspecies and chemotype.

Amrita selects only properly distilled, unadulterated, 100% botanical essential oils. We do not accept oils that have been rectified, peroxidized, decolorized, deterpenized, denatured, reconstituted or mixed with other essential oils, lipids, alcohol or other chemical compounds. There is only one exception: One of Amrita’s four eucalyptus oils (Eucalyptus globulus, No. 3422) is moderately rectified. We found that a moderate rectification of Eucalyptus globulus still offers the desired results; however, we also offer the completely unrectified oil. Unfortunately, more than 99% of all eucalyptus oils on the market today are heavily rectified and therefore therapeutically useless.

Furthermore, Amrita uses gas chromatography to verify that every oil contains the necessary chemical profile to ensure its therapeutic usefulness. Sometimes GC testing is the only way to determine the therapeutic value of an essential oil. For example, we do not accept German chamomile oil of the alpha bisabolol oxide chemotype. Although this is the most common variety of German chamomile, from a therapeutic point of view it is fairly useless because it lacks anti-inflammatory properties. In order for chamomile oil to be anti-inflammatory, it needs to contain a significant amount of alpha-bisalolol (rather than the oxide type).

Selective Sourcing
•Amrita seeks out essential oils that have been grown by the best cultivars in the optimum climatic and soil conditions. The plants are then properly harvested and prepared, and the oils are extracted using a low-heat methodology that is free of toxic chemicals.
•Amrita selects only 100% true, unadulterated botanical essential oils.
•Amrita chooses essential oils from wild-crafted or organically farmed plants whenever possible.
•Amrita selects essential oils whose fragrance spectrum is lively, rich and whole.
•Amrita does not accept oils that have been rectified, peroxidized, decolorized, deterpenized, denatured, reconstituted or mixed with other essential oils, lipids, alcohol or other chemical compounds.

Purity Standards at Amrita
Botanical purity is only the first step when Amrita sources essential oils. At Amrita, we use gas chromatographic analysis with chiral columns as the most reliable tool for selecting oils that are 100% from the botanical species indicated.

The botanical species is listed on the label of each of our oils as a further guarantee that the oil comes 100% from the species and is not cut with cheaper oils or synthetics (particularly "nature-identical" compounds), which is otherwise a common practice in essential oil production.

More than 95% of all essential oils today are produced for the flavor and fragrance industries. These industries are not in need of a natural product. Therefore, oils used by these industries often are not pure; they are reconstituted with nature-identical compounds of synthetic origin. Such oils are not suitable for aromatherapy. Further, even if they are pure, industrial oils are not usually distilled with the care necessary for aromatherapy purposes.

Beyond Purity--Ascertaining the Therapeutic Quality

Once an oil fulfills the first criteria--purity--there are a significant number of other parameters that can make or break the quality of an essential oil and its usefulness in aromatherapy. For example, Chamomile, even when pure and unadulterated, may not have much therapeutic value if the content of anti-inflammatory compounds is low. The genetic constitution of the plant, the climate and the farming methods greatly influence the composition of the oil and therefore its quality.

Amrita prefers to obtain essential oils from certified organic and wild-crafted sources. A plant that has been growing in its natural ecological habitat, to which it has adapted over millions of years, quite often has the most valuable composition.

At Amrita, we ensure that each oil we offer meets the standards of purity and quality we describe here.
